Kent Kreiselmaier, MA, LPC
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (C5812) specializing in individual and group counseling for adults. I conduct telehealth counseling with clients throughout Oregon, from my base in Portland, OR. I hold a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University (1998). I also earned a Master's degree in Religious Studies (Comparative Religion) from University of Denver (2008) and a PhD in Religion, Psychology, and Culture (RPS) from the Graduate Department of Religion at Vanderbilt University (2017). The RPS program integrated psychological and religious studies/theological perspectives to provide a holistic approach to understanding human functioning and existence. Finally, I earned a certificate for completing the two-year Advanced Psychodynamic Psychotherapy program (2016) of the Nashville Psychoanalytic Study Group (accredited by the APsaA). I have worked in state hospital, community mental health, adult probation, pastoral counseling, and private counseling agency settings since 2000.
I practice counseling from a psychodynamic orientation, which focuses on examining how the unconscious and our early relational experiences affect our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors in the present. I am also trained in mindfulness therapy approaches like Dialectical Behavior Therapy, meditative and contemplative practices, and pastoral counseling. Finally, I have training in EMDR to treat complex trauma and PTSD. I collaborate with clients to find a combination of approaches that best fit the client’s strengths and needs.
I am a transplant to the beautiful city of Portland and the Pacific Northwest, coming here in 2017, after growing up in Texas and spending the previous nine years in Nashville. I love hikes in nature, live music, following international soccer, and martial arts/qigong, and meditation.
